Influence of Using Tire-Derived Aggregate on the Structural Performance of Buried Concrete Pipe under Embankment Load

Induced trench method is a well-known technique usually used to reduce the soil pressure applied on buried pipes. This involves use of lightweight compressible material above pipe increase positive arching, and thus, decrease pipe. However, little efforts have been given by previous studies check applicability using tire-derived aggregate (TDA) as light weight in induced method, where it not clear if TDA could be arching for case concrete pipes with different diameters backfill heights. Thus, this paper investigates effect structural performance subjected load validated three-dimensional finite element model. A sensitivity analysis has carried out examine configuration TDA, height, diameter reducing wall bending moment. It was found that increasing height decreases TDA. Furthermore, up 1.2 m increases performance. significantly reduces from 2.4 m. In addition, also observed remarkable influence its performance, necessary place layer top crown arching. The results reported provide useful addition literature will help designers ensure economic design recyclable materials.
